Call for papers – Optometry & Vision Science – Glaucoma Feature Issue 2019

Imaging in Glaucoma

Submission window: January 31, 2019 to June 1, 2019
Publication date: Fall 2019

Glaucoma is an important public health issue and to promote new discoveries and clinical advances related to glaucoma diagnosis, treatment, and disease mechanisms, Optometry and Vision Science will devote our first feature issue of 2019 to this topic.

This coming feature issue will focus on discoveries related to imaging in glaucoma, a very broad and active field of investigation. Structural evaluation of the optic nerve and retinal nerve fiber layer has improved dramatically with the advent of optical coherence tomography imaging of the posterior and anterior segment of the eye. Other advances in imaging technology have led to novel discoveries related to the cellular mechanisms of glaucomatous optic neuropathy, non-invasive methods to characterize ocular biomechanics, and new ways to investigate the micro-architecture of the aqueous outflow system. This feature issue is dedicated to bringing these ongoing research efforts to publication and to advance thinking on this topic for researchers and clinicians alike.

Priority topics for this issue include:

  • Applications of evidence-based care guidelines for imaging and clinical decision making
  • Interpretation and use of optical coherence tomography imaging for disease detection and management
  • Innovations in diagnostic imaging for glaucoma
  • Use of imaging for glaucoma screening
  • Imaging and disease progression

All manuscripts will be peer reviewed and should be submitted through All submissions must be formatted according to the Instructions for Authors (IFA), available at The corresponding author should indicate that their manuscript is being submitted for this Feature Issue in the Author’s Comments box and in their cover letter at the time of submission.

Submissions for this feature issue will be coordinated by the Editor in Chief and a distinguished Guest Editorial Team. Early submissions are encouraged and will receive priority for E-publication on the journal website:
